The Hand That Rounded Peter’s Dome

After a few years of waiting, my dad’s latest book of poetry has finally been published by Turning Point, an Imprint of Word Tech Communications.

“The Hand that Rounded Peter’s Dome, George Drew’s sequence of poems narrating the life of Michelangelo, is a chorus of voices, a collage of visions, of the artist and his times.”

I have been waiting for this book to emerge from the waiting list because I illustrated and designed the cover way back in 2007 as a part of my BFA Thesis at the SAGE College of Albany. My technical skills and understanding have obviously grown since that time, but I still admire this work and think it holds up well even now.

I look forward to even more upcoming cover collaborations with my dad and I’ll have details of another I’m working on right now as soon as I am able. Click the image above to check out Turning Points catalog page for “Dome” and ordering information!

Aya Brea 3rd Birthday Present

Gamescom 10 is well underway over in Germany and there’s some pretty solid news coming out about 3rd Birthday, the third game in the Parasite Eve franchise, which has not been heard from since PE2 on Playstation over a decade ago. The new screen shots look amazing and I’m super excited to see where the story goes in this next installment!

Coincidentally and aptly; today is also a special day for another blonde-haired vixen, my good friend and super talented artist, designer and craft-maker Taylor Haynes. Check out her incredibly dark but colorful stuff at Applegang! The above fan art is just for you! Happy Birthday!

Web Week – Model Illustration VI

A nice mix of the sultry, sexy female partial-nude I did the previous day while keeping some sort of clothing on and back to a seated-pose like the first, bringing back as well the darker hair. This piece brings all the others together and I think wraps up this series nicely. Next week I’ll begin showing you the main navigation of the site and getting into the images that comprise parts of the site.

Web Week – Model Illustration V

I hate the hands in this one, but I LOVE the rest of the pose. Sexy, sultry, provocative…topless! I don’t expect the client to approve this as-is as even the reference photo I used had of course a fully clothed model, but I appreciate artistic nudes and just let this happen as it is. The next model will be our last and of sort of meets the middle ground where sexiness is concerned.

Web Week – Model Illustration IV

The next model is a fairly basic straight-on pose. I added some intrigue with the downward look and the closed eyes with the hair coming across part of the face, dark and drawing the eye down the body. The foreshortening on the arms took a few tries. The bareness of the torso, with a simple tube top helps balance out the extreme of the hair with the rough, wrinkled jeans I think. Clearly, I’m getting a little more dangerous with the amount of skin showing! :D

Web Week – Model Illustration III

The next model I tackled was in motion. The original I used as a reference had the model wearing a formal dress, and I sort of had to guess where the legs were based on the folds. After scanning and re-sizing, I also noticed I had drawn the head and face FAR too small, so I went back and edited it. This piece is the largest of the 6, as I ended up using the better part of 2 sheets of 8.5″ x 11″ paper taped together vertically. I also had to scan it in 2 parts and combine them in Photoshop CS4.

The original model had a much softer, cheerful expression, and I don’t think I quite nailed it, but the motion in her legs is apparent, and the odd torso-twist (broke-back, Leifeld style anyone?) was also slightly hard to pull off.

A REMINDER: Tomorrow there will be no new model drawing, but the next page of Citadel…the final page of Chapter 1, Part 1: ARCADIA will be going up! I’ll also be updating everyone on what’s to come and how the rest of this summer looks to shape up as we head towards an SPX Deadline on Chapter 2! Don’t miss it!
